Independent. Impartial. Confidential.—Supporting organisations across Australia and internationally for over 20 years

Ombuds support, workplace conflict, mediation

Conflict Management

Independent, confidential support – before conflict becomes a complaint, a claim or a story.

When something is brewing inside an organisation, a grievance that doesn’t fit the framework, a senior leader’s behaviour that’s eroding the team, a culture issue the usual channels can’t safely hold, you need someone outside the organisational chart. Someone with the training and the independence to surface what’s really going on, and the discretion to handle it before it hardens.

EquipMe Coaching & Consulting is built for those moments. We bring ombuds, mediation, facilitation and conflict coaching into organisations that want to resolve disputes early, restore trust, and strengthen how their people handle disagreement – without escalation, without losing time to formal processes and without anyone leaving the conversation worse off than they came in.

Conflict management services

External ombuds services

Independent, impartial, informal and confidential dispute resolution support for employees, managers and executives. We provide a safe, off-the-record space to explore issues and options before they become formal – sitting alongside, not in conflict with, your existing HR, legal and complaint frameworks.

Operates to International Ombuds Association professional standards: confidentiality, neutrality, independence, informality.

Mediation & facilitation

Neutral, structured mediation and facilitated conversations between individuals, teams or stakeholder groups. We restore trust, clarify misunderstandings and rebuild working relationships, particularly where the parties need to keep working together afterwards. AMDRAS-accredited.

Conflict coaching

One-to-one coaching for leaders and employees facing a specific conflict or recurring patterns they want to change. Builds awareness of conflict habits, strengthens communication, and develops the skills to handle difficult conversations without escalation.

Early intervention consulting

Guidance for HR and leadership teams on how to identify and address emerging conflicts before they escalate into formal complaints, performance management or workplace claims. Often takes the form of a confidential phone briefing and a recommended path of action.

Organisational conflict audits

Reviews of your policies, complaint systems, reporting channels and support frameworks. Identifies gaps and systemic issues, surfaces patterns that individual cases obscure, and provides leadership with the assurance evidence boards and regulators increasingly expect.

Training & workshops

Tailored sessions that build practical conflict-management capability across teams. Topics include emotional intelligence, psychological safety, effective feedback, holding difficult conversations, and recognising conflict patterns before they harden.

Scope clarity

What we don’t do

EquipMe Coaching & Consulting is not an investigator. We don’t make findings of fact, run disciplinary processes, or write formal investigation reports for regulators or tribunals. Where investigation is the right path, we’ll tell you and we can recommend trusted investigators we’ve worked alongside.

We don’t provide legal advice. We work alongside, not instead of, your legal advisors and governance counsel.

Audience cross links

Where you sit shapes how this looks

If you are in HR

An extension of your function not a replacement for it. Confidential triage for matters the formal channels can’t impartially hold, plus the audit and capability-build work that keeps the framework strong.

If you are a CEO or executive leader

A discreet, credentialled partner for senior conduct conversations and exec-team dynamics. The kind of conversation you can’t have with anyone on your payroll.

If you are on the board

Independent counsel for chairs and committees on CEO conduct, culture findings and matters that need an outside view before they land on the agenda.

Why conflict management matters

Unresolved conflict doesn’t stay where it starts. It ripples through teams, erodes communication, drains discretionary effort and quietly costs organisations far more than the issue itself ever cost to fix. By the time it surfaces as a formal complaint, a resignation, or a regulator question, the cost — in time, trust and legal exposure — has multiplied.

Early, well-handled intervention brings specialist advisory depth to bear at a fraction of what formal processes cost — the kind of independent, ombuds-informed capability that organisations rarely access until the situation has already hardened. It also tends to be the most respectful one, people generally don’t want a formal process; they want to be heard, understood and given a path forward. That’s the work.

Handled with intention, conflict management becomes more than damage control. It becomes a way of building the kind of organisation that’s alert to its own patterns, willing to surface what’s not working, and resilient when the next hard conversation arrives, because it will.

Testimonials

Janet has been an invaluable partner in strengthening organisational culture and resolving complex workplace issues. I’ve seen first-hand her impact as an Organisational Ombuds, guiding individuals and leaders through sensitive, high-stakes issues with care, sound judgement and professional discretion. Janet combines broad HR expertise with the Ombuds principles of independence and confidentiality, remaining objective while consistently demonstrating integrity, fairness and respect. She is a trusted advisor whose considered approach, insight and principled leadership leave a lasting positive impact.

Chris Watts

Execuitve People, Culture & Talent Leader

Janet was my trusted go-to person for tricky issues involving employee and management relations, especially during significant organisation changes. As the Ombudsperson in the APAC region at Chevron, she wasted little time in engaging stakeholders to understand their priorities and experiences. Amidst tension and discomfort in workplace settings, she brings calm and helps to restore safety for honest and respectful conversations to happen. More than that, she can help you grow skills and prepare your leaders to do the same.

Yit Nee Chong

Organisational Development Consultant

I worked with Janet Vantriet during our time at Chevron, where I served as the organisation’s Australasian Decision Making Team Lead for most of our joint tenure. In that capacity, I was closely involved in senior decision processes and leadership communications, and I engaged with Janet in a professional advisory context within a highly complex and sensitive operating environment.

At the time, the organisation was navigating significant systemic issues, requiring judgement, discretion, and an acute understanding of personal conduct, governance, and cultural boundaries.

As part of addressing these concerns, the company initiated an independent external review into reported behaviours. This process ultimately led to the implementation of enhanced behavioural monitoring and targeted training programs across the organisation. Janet’s work sat within this broader framework of reform, supporting individuals and leaders to engage constructively with the issues raised, and to operate in line with strengthened expectations of conduct.

In a professional capacity, Janet advised me on speechwriting for decision-making addresses, framing messages for diverse audiences, and handling difficult interpersonal situations with care and clarity. Her guidance consistently balanced empathy with accountability, and she had a rare ability to de-escalate tension while maintaining professional standards. Her manner is calm and disarming, which allowed people to engage openly without feeling exposed or judged.

Over time, my professional relationship with Janet developed into a genuine friendship. Importantly, however, Janet was always meticulous in maintaining a clear boundary between her professional role and personal support. At every stage, her conduct remained ethical, appropriate, and aligned with best practice for an Ombuds professional.

Outside the workplace, Janet had a positive influence on my personal life during a period of significant transition, including some difficult life moments. While this speaks to her character and empathy, it never compromised her professionalism or blurred roles when we were working together.

Janet Vantriet brings integrity, emotional intelligence, and sound judgement to complex human systems. I would have no hesitation recommending her Ombuds consultancy to organisations seeking trusted, independent support in environments where issues are sensitive, stakes are high, and professionalism is non-negotiable.
